                                         PROTOCOL

When to Arrive

The doors of the The Helix will be open two hours before a performance starts. Please arrive early to facilitate seating and for the comfort of all our patrons.

Latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance. In the event of lateness, admission cannot always be guaranteed.

Behaviour

To ensure a comfortable visit for all of our patrons, we ask that children remain seated throughout the performance. While we understand that it is sometimes impossible to control, we may ask parents to temporarily step out of the theatre with their child if crying becomes loud or disturbing to the performers or fellow attendees.

Food and Drink

Only food and drink purchased at The Helix are permitted. For the consideration and respect of the audience and performers, we ask that sweets and drinks purchased from our shop are kept quiet during the performance, and that they are disposed of in the rubbish bins provided. Chewing gum is prohibited at The Helix. For more information on Food and Drink at The Helix, please click here.

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones should be turned off completely, not just silenced, during the performance. Aside from being distracting to the audience, they interfere with the theatre’s technical signals and can cause unwanted effects.

Photography and Video

Photography/video recording is prohibited during performances without the express permission of The Helix management. Please note that the event may be recorded live for use in the form of sound recordings, television, video tapes and other means of audio and audiovisual reproductions.

Cloakroom
The cloakroom is situated on the first floor foyer. There is a charge of €1 per item. Please contact Box Office 01 700 7000 to confirm cloakroom will be open for your show.

BRINGING YOUR FAMILY TO THE HELIX

Age Appropriateness

1. The Helix has a policy of advising patrons of the suitability of family and children’s shows for particular ages e.g “Suitable for age 4 upwards”. Age suitability information will always be carried for family and schools shows on our website and in our published season brochure.

2. We strongly advise bookers to take account of this recommendation with reference to the children for whom a booking may be made.

3. The Helix recognises that children can be excited at family shows and that some shows may be interactive and involve participation by children. We want our smaller patrons to enjoy performances. Yet, for the enjoyment of all of our patrons, The Helix reserves the right to refuse admission if the child is under the advised age or to ask adult guardians to remove a child from the auditorium (even when within the advised age range) if his/her behaviour is affecting the enjoyment of others.

Babes-In-Arms (generally children under 12 months)

1. Occasionally, The Helix will present a show which is suitable for children from 0 - 4 years of age. The advised age guideline will reflect this. In these circumstances, children under 1 year of age are admitted free of charge provided they can be seated throughout the performance on the accompanying adult’s lap. If bookers wish to avail of this facility, they must advise the Box Office at the time of booking (telephone and in person bookings only) and an infant ticket will be issued.

2. The Helix reserves the right to limit the number of infant tickets issued for any one performance for Health and Safety reasons to do with overall capacity.

3. Children over 1 year of age must have a paid ticket.

4. In circumstances where a show is suitable for ages 4 and upwards (including shows where no age range is advised and which are primarily for adults) we regret that babes-in-arms cannot be admitted.

The Helix presents many shows (musicals etc.) which may be suitable for 2 – 16 year olds without being advertised as specifically family shows. If you feel that your child or children would enjoy and understand the show, and their attendance would not compromise your enjoyment or that of other patrons, please feel free to bring them. If you are unsure about this, please phone the Box Office for advice.

The Helix makes every effort to ensure that patrons are aware of the suitability of family and schools shows for certain ages. If you are in any doubt or have any queries, please phone the Box Office on 01 700 7000.

Occasionally, shows may not be suitable for under-16s. The Helix will make every effort to highlight this on its website and in its season brochure.

Family Facilities

Parking: Upon arriving at DCU from Collins Avenue, you will find an indoor multi-storey car park located on your right hand side, directly opposite The Helix. We urge families to allow ample travelling time and to arrive in good time to guarantee that everyone is seated for the start of the performance.

Please bring your ticket for the car park with you to The Helix and you can exchange it at the shop on the ground floor for an exit pass for €4. This way you can avoid queuing to pay for parking after the show.  For more information on Parking, please click here.

Buggie: are welcomed in the lobby of The Helix, but are not permitted inside the theatres. There is a buggy-park facility at all of our family performances.

Baby changing facilities: are available on the ground floor. There are toilets on all three levels of the building as well, and we ask parents to accompany their children when appropriate.

Catering: The Helix has a shop, a café and a bar all on the ground floor, selling a wide range of sweets, soft drinks, ice-cream and other refreshments. For more information on Food and Drink at The Helix, please click here.

Access: Our helpful and friendly staff can accommodate anyone who is mobility impaired or has special needs. Please inform the Box Office if you will require any assistance when attending. For more information on Accessibility at The Helix, please click here.
