The Gardiner Street Gospel Choir was founded in the year 2000 and was the first weekly Gospel Mass in Dublin. Since then the choir have gone from strength to strength performing for a packed church each week and at various gigs for charities and initiatives across the country.
Some highlights of the last few years have been performances at Dublin City Soul Festival where they shared the stage with US soul giants the Rance Allen Group, Irish Aid's Africa Day where they collaborated with Kila, at the women’s prison, the Dochas Centre, which was recorded and broadcast on RTE Radio, and for The Dublin Docklands Authority for the lighting of their Christmas tree.
They have also had the pleasure of welcoming several gospel choirs from all over the world to their home in St Francis Xavier Church; the Boston Black Catholic Gospel Choir, the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church Choir and Gospelchor Lingenfeld from Germany. Always expanding their music repertoire it has been a pleasure for them to record with Luka Bloom & Juliet Turner recently.
Entering their 9th year, this talented and hard working choir is now under the musical direction of Aidan Greene, and have a busy schedule for the 2008-2009 season culminating in The Helix.
A showcase of traditional gospel, contemporary, joyful & uplifting music, with everything from U2 to Macy Gray, Bob Marley to Jewel, traditional gospel to new twists on old classics. The choir promises a great night's entertainment, that will have you dancing and singing along.
